Hypnosis is probably one of the most misunderstood professions in the world. Unlike the movie and stage image, the real life clinical practice is quite different. Here are some common questions about Hypnosis.

Q:Will I be asleep or unconscious during trance?

A:No. While you are in hypnosis you are in a state of increased awareness and alertness. You will be surprised to find that you are very focused and aware of your surroundings. Some people may say that they were not hypnotized in a session because they heard everything that the hypnotist said.

Q:Can I be made to do or say anything I would not ordinarily do or say?

A:No. You will not do anything you do not think is acceptable. You cannot be hypnotized against your will.

Q:Can I be hypnotized and never come out of it?

A:No. It is important for you to remember that a trance state can be terminated by you at any time.

Q:How many sessions should I take?

A:It depends on the person. Some people are well after one session, others take sessions every week for several months and listen to hypnosis CDs almost every day before they realize benefits. It is also common to take several sessions for one issue. The number of session is issue specific. One client came to me to stop smoking and for weight management. It took only one session to stop smoking but several months for weight management.

Q:Can I get hypnotized?

A:Yes. Everyone experiences several hypnotic states per day. It is like daydreaming, and a totally natural phenomenon. I believe that people can get hypnotized easily if he/she overcomes a fear of hypnosis and is ready for an improvement in their lives. Although you may not feel that you are hypnotized during the first session, this is totally natural; Do not give up or feel that you have failed, hypnosis will come with practice and time. It took me several times before I felt that I was hypnotized for the first time.
